IGN: Polar_L
Name: Polar (not my given name but the one most people call me)
Age: not comfortable giving as I could be the parent of most of the applicants. lol Let's just say I understand things Baj talks about.
Skype username: polar_g_72
Country(its optional and it won't affect your application): Canada, home of Etho, Pause, and Beef (same city)
Reasons for wanting to join the B.G. community(wide answer required):
I am looking for a server where I have the freedom to build and stream. I want something that is not too established yet but has a lot of the basics done. I am looking for a long term server that I can play on for the next few years. I have no issues with server resets, or rule changes, or such, as time goes on. I just really want to build and make a home in a community of other players who are just as dedicated to the game. I want a place I can stream and eventually make videos full time.
How did you know about us: reddit, and a quick chat with philodigy who addressed a few of my concerns (thanks!)
When and how did you start playing minecraft:
There is a story to this question. My nephew wanted to play games on my computer when he came over to visit. I had been a gamer of sorts back in the day (DOOM, etc) and thought it would be fun. He introduced me to balloon tower defense and my gaming bug was reawakened. He quickly bored of it and we went from game to game as his attention drifted.
He then told me about this game his friend was playing called Minecraft. I told him I would check it out before he was allowed to play it on my system. I delayed for a couple of weeks and finally, a very persistent 10 year old kept at me and I let him play. He proceeded to teach me what he knew, drawing me what would become my first wiki. I still have those pages. We played in the same world, he solo when he was over, and I, when he was not here. We both played under my username. I started a few of my own single player worlds for us to play. It did not take long before I became addicted. He got interested in mob farms and I was forced to go online to produce he wanted. Monkey farm had a great vid. I made his mob farm and my nephew believed I was the best mindcraft player ever lol. Monkeyfarm lead to Hermitcraft when they talked about this Etho guy a lot. I started watching Team Canada after that. I could not believe what I could do and how limited I was by my computer. I broke down and built a gaming computer. Did you know that all mobs do not teleport? I did not until I discovered how much more fun the game is in more than 6 fps.
Shortly after getting the new computer, my nephew wanted to play on multiplayer servers. I was nervous about him playing on a public server so for that Christmas I gave him and his cousin a copy of minecraft and started a server for them and their friends to play on. Eventually, 10 year olds tire of playing and I had no interest in running an empty server. I went back to single player.
Over time I joined my first multiplayer server and met some of the best friends I have ever had online. They taught me about streaming and making videos. That server closed and several servers later I am applying here. If you need to know my server history I would be happy to talk to you about it. I have been owner and admin multiple times and have no desire go back to doing either. I have had three user names now and privately will talk to you about the whys and wherefores of it.
My nephew is now 13. Simple math as to how long I have been playing.
Do you watch streams or you tube videos about minecraft and are you a fan of any popular minecrafters ?:
I am a huge fan of Etho and Beef. I love my fellow Canadians! Pause is great too when there was a Team Canada on Mindcrack. I do watch random Mindcrack and Hermitcraft videos but with both of those communities have gotten so large, I decided I would rather play than watch. I am still loyal to my Beefikins and Etho! I also watch TheCorpseAsylum and some of the players on his server.
How good are you in minecraft /10 and in what fields(don't be hard on yourself):
2/10 redstone - I am hopeless at it, even with a book - yes, an actual book made of paper and ink...
5/10 living - I die often, like really often but I love going on adventures and that is part of the risk. F3 is my best friend. Death counters are my nightmare.
9/10 building - I live to build. I love doing huge projects. The one I am still working on (mostly in my head) is a large plantation house. It has 4 floors and I have yet to picture how the forth floor will work. I build farms and mountain/cliff villages. And both nether and overland paths to lead back to my home.
7/10 PVP - I am ok with a sword 5/10 and deadly with a bow 9/10. I played WoW for a while and was a BM hunter. That means I love killing people from a distance, and getting killed close up. I love to build things that encourage PVP. My builds naturally lend themselves to sniper nests and hidden areas. I love PVP or just building around others as others enjoy my area. All PVP should be consensual.
10/10 smp - It is the only way to play for me. Usually on hard. Set me free and I will create the most awesome collection of everything in the game. My doors are always open and have no issues with people coming and taking what they need. My thought is that if you needed it then please take it. I can always get more. Diamonds are a bit of a stretch at first as i will need them, but beyond that...
0/10 nether - the nether is the most deadly place for me. I attract lava. If you need lava just send me in and within a min it will be with me. And I will be dead. Simple. I stay out as much a possible. But the lure of an adventure... it pulls me back every time... must stay out... will die... but ... oh look, quartz!
Do you plan on steaming or starting a YouTube series in the B.G server ?:
I stream on twitch. Finding a server I can really stream on is the only limitation I have with my stream. I use OBS and record my streams but, just like watching vids, I would rather play then edit for YouTube. I have a YouTube channel but I really hate editing - passionately. I bought good editing software and have installed it. I can't say I ever opened it lol.
For how long do you plan on playing minecraft (doesn't have to be with us, just in general):
I plan to play minecraft until I stop playing LOL. That is not likely to happen any time soon. My time in game is limited only by my time irl. Right now I have tonnes of it. I do hope to go back to school in Jan but doubt it. I would like to be a full time streamer and get my butt in gear and get some vids out. I do archive my videos if you want to see them. Just let me know and I will give you the link.
Describe your normal day:
Wake up or whatever it called before my cup of tea. Computer goes on. Drink tea while I checking my social medias and replying to whatever need replying to. Log into mindcraft. The day flies by. My stomach growls and I remember that I should eat. Make dinner (yes I missed breakfast and lunch). Eat dinner while playing. Stream. More time goes by. Eventually, go to sleep. In there I play with Skittles and talk to family. I do go to visit my parents occasionally but I still play there. Actually I am writing this from there now. I put in 10+ hours a day in game, usually closer to 16+.
Extra information(wide answer required):
I love sports! My Blue Jays are in the finals for the first time in 22 years so I will be tied to the tv while playing Minecraft. That means Skype, ts, mumble, or vent will have the ball game in the background. I am expressive about my sports teams. Loudly expressive. lol And as a good Canadian, I love hockey! My team, for the first time ever, may have a shot at winning a game! I am very excited about this year. I also love cricket (West Indies all the way), cycling (Tour de France is the only thing I would not play minecraft for), football (CFL and yes that is real), and many other sports. Those are my top ones. My city has a football (soccer) team too but other than owning a t-shirt, I am not a huge fan, just loyal to my city.
I love gaming. When not playing minecraft, I am in any number of steam games, or origin games, or popcap games. I stream those games also. I no longer play WoW but still watch the live streams. And if my guild still existed I would still be playing that too. I love raiding. We had had an amazing raiding guild. This expat has been something we would have found challenging. Too bad they discovered League - it killed us. I do not play League - I would rather cut off my fingers.
I have a hamster named Skittles, not after the candy but because she was very skittish when I first got her. She is the love of my life. I plan to get a cat in the near future but that is more up to Skittles than me. She gets final say. I plan to go to a shelter and the one that does not scare her, or try to eat her, will have a new home.
I have a two year old niece that will we watching my archived streams and eventual YouTube videos so I keep them pg. That means I do not swear or talk about inappropriate topics when recording. Outside of that I could care less about topics or language. I can swear with the best of them. I choose not too since little ears can hear and repeat anything. My niece lives above me. I do not want to be the one who teaches her those things. My nephew is a lost cause lol.
My only rant would be: UP time is a reality for me and saying 90% of the time better really mean 90%. I do not want the server to go down for 30 + mins in the middle of a stream. Even 10 mins is a deal breaker for me. I have high expectations of up time. I understand if mojang is down. But I am not so understanding about server down time. Role backs are also not acceptable to me. I see very little use in them. I have been griefed (badly) and understand why they would be wanted, but I find they hurt the rest of the server. Griefers win both ways. Unless it has lagged out the server to the point of being unplayable, to me, there is never a reason to roll it back.
My significant other runs a mc server and we both support me playing somewhere else. Too much of a good thing spoils it. We plan to run ctm maps together and he will upload the vids. I won't stream stuff he loads to YouTube. He is planning to teach me to edit and I will teach him to stream.
I have a temper like a volcano but the attention span of a turnip so I am essentially harmless. My rage quit only lasts as long as it take for me to log back in. I hold a grudge for a long as I remember I am supposed to... not long. I find hope and humour in almost every situation.
I don't do creative. I just don't like it. I can't fly. If I can't try it in vanilla then I can't be bothered. I also do not like modded. I have played a few different versions of it including one that was created for me (he did it to make me play modded) and I have not enjoyed how much it is like school. I do not want to spend more hours learning the mods so I can make a better axe. I do love bees thought. And butterflies. And all the pretty trees! Ok I really don't like it because it is too distracting... oh look, another type of flower!
Lastly, I just dyed my hair blue to show my team support! I am very social but until my team wins the World Series, I doubt I will talk much. That means only 90% of the conversation rather than 100%.
This has become a novel rather than an application. I hope you will accept me and look forward to playing with everyone on the server. If I have missed anything, let me know, and I will add it. Or pm me for more sensitive information.
